Take the river route, Keswick Dam Trail
The road along the Sacramento is bumpy and beautiful. Kill time in Redding till the evening. Walk a little, hang out in the park under the railroad bridge by the river.

Pretty deluxe hotel. A lot of baseball teams seemed to be staying there.
