Two campgrounds in one! A nice little tent campground on a knoll jutting into the lake, and a section of the boat ramp parking lot. RVs can only go to the latter. Since I sleep in my vehicle I'm supposed to sleep in the boat lot with the big boys, but there's already a pickup camper setting up, and it turns out that this time of year with only 8-10 site taken, nobody cares..
Ridiculously hot day. 103° at Sycamore Grove, with a low tonight of 78° I'm pretty sore I can't sleep at 78°, so I moved on to here. Much better! Eight degrees cooler and a nice stiff breeze.
Almost everything about the place is the very opposite of my last visit.
Instead of being very cold and empty, it's very hot and insanely noisy and crowded. Of course it is the last Sunday afternoon before 4th of July weekend, temperature around 100°, so if ever there was a time to rip the tarp off the ole motorboat and get out of the driveway and onto the lake, this is it!
This looks like my fallback stop for the Eureka run. It is VERY cold, averaged about 26° driving over here, forecast of 36° tonight. I wanted to stay at Cave CG, but forecast there is for 9° - yikes!
It's New Year's Eve eve, there's a W's game tonight, very similar to last time except I'm going the other direction.
stayed in the parking lot this time. It's Thanksgiving eve, and there is not a single vehicle or human in this whole huge lot. Sounds kinda sad, but in fact I really enjoyed my evening!
awesome off season spot, just out of town. I've got bars for the Giants game!
This place really is for tent camping. Parking spaces are in bunches, with little trails radiating away to the picnoic tables and tent spots. The E group provides the nicest van spots, parallel rather than head-in, so iI open the door onto grass. the only drawback is that there is come kind of hobo city across the road (probably really campground managers that have been here way too long), and they rustle around at all hours.
