  • Jeffroe's Fruit Stand and Pie Shop
  • private business Chester CA
  • My friend Jeff lives and works in Reno until Memorial Day, then he commutes to Chester every weekend to run his fruit stand / pie shop / ice creamery / burrito place. It's really fun to hang out here.

  • Crystal Crane Hot Springs
  • private business Crane OR
  • How have I not known about this place?! It was nearly perfect in every way for what I like to do on the road. Common Room next to the office with satellite tv. The pool is awesome. Maybe 100' across, 2-4' deep mostly, with incredibly, life-threateningly hot water comong in from the southeast end, and cooling jets shooting out from the south, so you simply ewade in and find your spot!

  • Colusa Casino
  • private business Colusa CA
  • RV parking is way in the back of the parking lot ... That part of the lot is still gravel there and quite muddy in the rain. Casino is cozy and not unpleasant. Restaurant and bar are just fine. Wifi is terrible except close to the coffee shop.

  • Drift Creek Landing Campground
  • private business Waldport OR
  • A shabby but very comfortable little RV park a few miles up the Alsea River from Waldport. A little landing and a snackbar that was open on Sunday.

  • Anchor Lodge
  • private business Fort Bragg CA
  • In the harbor area. You can see it far below you from 101 in the east side of the bridge over the Noyes River. The "office" is the cashier on the second floor of Silver's at The Wharf across the parking lot. It's also great place to return to for a sunset beer. Very user-friendly place. Upstairs rooms are $10 cheaper, but they were full.

  • the Gannon's
  • private business San Rafael CA
  • The other grandparent's house, in lovely, user-friendly downtown San Rafael. It's very handy for Martha's business and they seem to always host family functions, so I end up here quite a lot.

  • Morefield Campground
  • Mesa Verde National Park, Cortez CO
  • National park campgrounds with check in are the worst. The campground is by definition huge, or else they wouldn't pay a staff to check you in. It takes forever because they have to explain the world to each and every guest and it creates a high stress level that is the opposite of what you're there for. However ... once that's over, it's a nice campground! There three different hikes to take from the valley where the campground is back up to the mesa. There are free showers, wifi and food at the check-in place, which is pretty far from the campsites.

  • Summer Lake Hot Springs
  • private business Summer Lake OR
  • no assigned sites, just a big field. hot springs are in an old barn-like structure, very pleasant

  • Louisiana Welcome Center
  • Interstate rest area, Henderson LA
  • Nice welcome center with big parking lot where you can part pretty far from the semis. Free coffee in the morning!

  • Colman City Park Campground
  • Colman Municipal Golf Course, Colman SD
  • What a great place! Walk over to the golf course clubhouse to check in, she gives you the wifi password, then you pretty much park on the grass anywhere you want. The wifi was great, it happened that I parked 30' from the bathrooms What with food at the clubhouse, good wifi, and a short walk to the shower, I literally could live here a while.

  • Lucky 7 Casino
  • private business Crescent City CA
  • This place is super user-friendly. There is an RV parking area at the back of the lot, and another across the road behind the reservation gas station. The second one is more level but seemed a little sketchy. I am going for the first. Glad to be here! Wifi was dead for most of the evening, but when it came back it was pretty good. There are a couple of stations in the casino with free coffee and even a cappuccino machine! You can hear the surf at night when the traffic is gone. The ocean is right across the highway, complete with a bench on the bluffs to watch sunset. Sweet little fountain with colored lights to entertain your inner stoner. Nice, friendly place.

  • Granzellas Deli
  • private business Williams, CA
  • They have a parking lot dedicated to overnighters and trucks carrying boats/trailers. There's one very comfy stop next to a tree. It's really handy for me as an overnight before Harbin.
