  • Watauga Dam Campground
  • Tennessee Valley Authority, Valley Forge TN
  • A really nice spot, a fisherman's dream I imagine. This a tailwater campground, that is to say build below the dam on the river. Most of the campsites are right on the river, so folks were fishing right out of the back of their campsites.

  • Springhill Campground
  • Army Corps of Engineers, Ft. Smith AR
  • Really nice place, good bargain. Quiet and natural, but close to civilization. A Loop is more open, on a point of land in a calm little estuary of the Arkansas River. B Loop is in the forest above the actual river. They have showers.

  • Hilton Park Campground
  • private business Guerneville CA
  • Funky place on the Russian River, more lo-budget than its fancy neighbors. We got a lovely site surrounded by redwoods, 40 yards from the river.

  • Harmonie Campground
  • Indiana State Parks, New Harmony IN
  • Way overpriced and has stupid rules. The park borders the Wabash River, but the campground itself is miles from the river. There is a public swimming pool that is an additional charge on top of the camping fee.

  • Cape Blanco Campground
  • Oregon State Parks, Port Orford
  • Bike one way to a lovely lagoon, walk the other way to to beach, nice sites high on the bluffs. A really nice campground.

  • Big Biloxi Campground
  • Desoto National Forest, Gulfport MS
  • Boring but very handy to the Gulfport and the coast. They withheld part of the senior discount!

  • Dos Reis Regional Campground
  • San Joaquin County Parks, Lathrop CA
  • A very handy, odd little campground. Two miles off of I-5, right up against the (quite tall) levee on the San Joaquin River. You can see and the interestate far off in the distance across the farmland.

  • Highland Hammock State Park
  • Florida State Park, Sebring FL
  • central Florida, savannah-like, nice big campground

  • Champagne Lakes RV Park
  • private business Escondido CA
  • In a little valley off I-15, with a little stream feeding a series of little ponds.

  • Sulphur Lake Campground
  • private business Williamstown, OH
  • non-descript but sort of pretty, nice manager, overpriced
