  • Potato Patch Campground
  • Lassen National Forest, Chester CA
  • Passed by this many times on the Chester to Chico run on Route 32. Really pleasant campground about 30' above Deer Creek, a picture perfect trout stream. 40 miles from Chico, 30 miles from Chester.

  • Katherine's Landing Campground, Lake Mohave
  • Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Bullhead City AZ
  • huge, rv-friendly campground. No elec hookups, so generators are running everywhere. On the hill a few hundred feet above the lake.

  • Colusa Casino
  • private business Colusa CA
  • RV parking is way in the back of the parking lot ... That part of the lot is still gravel there and quite muddy in the rain. Casino is cozy and not unpleasant. Restaurant and bar are just fine. Wifi is terrible except close to the coffee shop.

  • Las Vegas Bay Campground
  • Lake Mead NRA, Henderson NV
  • Still quiet and cheap and convenient, EXCEPT for the generators which always seem to be running here during the permissible hours. But really, a $10 (or $5 for seniors) nice campground 16 miles from the edge of Las Vegas ... gotta take the bad with the good. Checks not accepted, so make sure to have that $5 bill!

  • Burro Creek Campground
  • Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Wikieup AZ
  • A great find! Very nice BLM campground right off US 93 between Phoenix and Kingman

  • Cisco Beach Campground
  • Bear Lake State Park, Utah, Laketown UT
  • Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, there were a few sites available at 3pm. I got what I hope is the least nasty. Bless my van for being tall enough to generate its own shade.

  • Guadaloupe Mountains NP
  • National Park, Carlsbad NM
  • Your two choices are tent camping and parking lot. It's a small lot, and everybody but me was running their generators till 10. Whatever is special and interesting about this park is not apparent from the road.

  • Hopewell Lake Campground
  • Carson National Forest, Las Piedras NM
  • Elevation 9,800' No wonder I'm a huffin and puffin A real gem of a campground, at the edge of a high mountain meadow. Today there is one a-hole running his totally unshielded generator all afternoon. Other than that, a really, nice, almost perfect campground. A google comment says the Continental Divide Trail runs through the campground. Explains those two "Trail" signs.

  • Van Damme State Park
  • California State Parks, Mendocino CA
  • Always totally full and very crowded, but not tonight! It's another little cove, the outlet of the Little River. State Beach on the west side of the road, campground and parking for the trails on the east side. Up the canyon is the Fern Canyon Trail, a lovely hike with a lot of dramatic fallen redwoods and tall pines. The canyon is very steep and the soil is slippery so at some point they just have to fall. The beach is rocky, but it's a cool anyway. A self contained vehicle like mine can pay the $45/43 fee and park in the beach parking lot
