  • Motel 6
  • chain, Fort Bragg CA
  • One of the cheaper motels in town, and for good reason! The room itself is nice. Motel 6 is (IMO), kind of the Target of motel chains in that it offers quite a bit more style than it's competitors. There's a bar/restaurant on the lot that's very handy. Just pack up in the morning and walk to breakfast.

  • the Gannon's
  • private business San Rafael CA
  • The other grandparent's house, in lovely, user-friendly downtown San Rafael. It's very handy for Martha's business and they seem to always host family functions, so I end up here quite a lot.

  • Arlington Hotel Resort and Spa
  • private business Hot Springs AR
  • Historic hotel in the very heart of downtown Hot Springs. Nice hot tub, I'm sure the pool is nice in the summer. A short walk to the Hot Springs Visitors Center.

  • Anchor Lodge
  • private business Fort Bragg CA
  • In the harbor area. You can see it far below you from 101 in the east side of the bridge over the Noyes River. The "office" is the cashier on the second floor of Silver's at The Wharf across the parking lot. It's also great place to return to for a sunset beer. Very user-friendly place. Upstairs rooms are $10 cheaper, but they were full.

  • Rodeway Inn
  • Rodeway Inn, Cedar City UT
  • Very basic motel on Center St, about five blocks south of Center and Main, the core of any good Mormon town. A lot of semi-permanent residents. Not really sketchy, just poor. Indoor pool and jacuzzi were very nice.

  • Roaring River Campground
  • Roaring River State Park, MO
  • Fifth spring in a row! Also a fishery. This may be the fishiest yet! Quite large, there is a lodge with a nice restaurant up the hill. There is wifi strong enough I could use it from my van ... but it only worked for the last 6 hours of my two days there. There was live bluegrass music in the Lodge on Friday night!

  • Windy Cove Campground
  • Douglas County Parks, Winchester Bay OR
  • There are two separate campgrounds, Windy Cove A and B. A is the closer to civilization. B has two loops, one of those loops is no-hookups, my loop! Very nice showers, well-mowed, easy walk to the marina, and such stores and restaurants as there are in Winchester Bay. I covered the town from one end to the other then ended up at the local bar for two beers. Checkout time is 11AM, which just isn't right! I have dawdled till nearly noon and no one has hassled me.

  • home
  • private business Reno NV
  • nice kitchen, good heat and a/c, satellite tv, comfortable sofa and nice coffeehouse nearby. Why do I ever leave?

  • Midtown Motel
  • private business Great Falls MT
  • Modest motel with a Perkins restaurant in downtown Great Falls. Checkout time is 1 pm!

  • Titanic Comfort Hotel
  • private business Istanbul Turkey
  • nice place, kinda boring, in an upscale but boring part of town. Breakfast was good. They stuck me in the basement.

  • Duke's Slickrock Campground
  • private business Hanksville UT
  • Campground, cabins, and a restaurant in the junction town of Hanksville. The campground is reasonably priced. The restaurant has frustrating service and indifferent food, but it's a short walk.

  • Katie's house #1
  • Myrtletown, Eureka CA
  • dog, cats, espresso machine, teenager

  • Desert Hot Springs Resort
  • private business Desert Hot Springs CA
  • The lodge itself is not fancy, just a standard-issue two story motel with paper-thin walls. But it's got a restaurant and a bar and all those lovely soaking pools, so it's fancy to me! The motel is a rectangle enclosing the pool area - 6-7 pools, a couple very hot, a big pool where the kids hang out, and a bar area over in the corner. Cool Rat Pack-y kind of place.

  • Lamplighter Motel
  • private business Alamosa CO
  • Downtown Alamosa is a cool place to hang out, but this motel is falling apart. Breakfast at their litle restaurant is included, and it was a pretty good breakfast.

  • Challis Hot Springs
  • private business Challis ID
  • An awesome find! Beautiful campsite right on a bend of the Salmon River.

  • Aspen Motel
  • private business Oakridge OR
  • Crummy little place, but nice tv and good wifi. Oakridge has a real Appalachian feel to it, not in a good way.

  • Sierra Hot Springs
  • private business Sierraville CA
  • Camping is just the edge of the forest behind the lodge. Next to a very pretty cow pasture at the edge of the huge Sierra Valley. Nice lodge to hang out in, wifi and kitchen, free to campers. The Hot Springs has also taken over the hotel in town. There is also a breakfast place and aMexican restaurant in town, both pricy but good!

  • Trails Motel
  • private business Lone Pine CA
  • Right next to the movie museum at the south end of Lone Pine. Can walk to the pizza place.

  • Albion River Campground
  • private business Albion CA
  • Looked good on the internet, and probably is good if you're a fisherman with a boat and a huge-ass RV as big as a mobile home.

  • Mystic Hot Springs
  • private business Monroe UT
  • There is one big pool with a little waterfall, then up the hill are some bathtubs for your own private soak overlooking the wide valley. Really cool setup. Camping area is 200 yards down the hill. The pools are spectacular and the actual camping area is pleasant but rest of the property is extremely derelict. Walking up the crappy trail to the bathtubs in flip flops is hard for a 70-year old. It's pretty dangerous coming back down in wet flip-flops! Electric hookups and tent/van sleeping seem to be the same price.

  • Martha's house #1
  • private business Eureka CA
  • Where the family now is. A little one bedroom on a corner with a nice bug side yard, perfect for playing ball with Tyler.
