  • Givens Hot Springs
  • private business Melba ID
  • Old, charmingly decrepit place on the Snake River south of Boise. The hot springs is basically a spring-fed indoor swimming pool. It's a nice temperature, especially after you find the 3-4 spots where the hot water comes in. There's a basketball hoop and 20-30 little beachballs floating around, so one can pass the time shooting hoops.

  • Morefield Campground
  • Mesa Verde National Park, Cortez CO
  • National park campgrounds with check in are the worst. The campground is by definition huge, or else they wouldn't pay a staff to check you in. It takes forever because they have to explain the world to each and every guest and it creates a high stress level that is the opposite of what you're there for. However ... once that's over, it's a nice campground! There three different hikes to take from the valley where the campground is back up to the mesa. There are free showers, wifi and food at the check-in place, which is pretty far from the campsites.

  • Lucky 7 Casino
  • private business Crescent City CA
  • This place is super user-friendly. There is an RV parking area at the back of the lot, and another across the road behind the reservation gas station. The second one is more level but seemed a little sketchy. I am going for the first. Glad to be here! Wifi was dead for most of the evening, but when it came back it was pretty good. There are a couple of stations in the casino with free coffee and even a cappuccino machine! You can hear the surf at night when the traffic is gone. The ocean is right across the highway, complete with a bench on the bluffs to watch sunset. Sweet little fountain with colored lights to entertain your inner stoner. Nice, friendly place.

  • Aspen Motel
  • private business Oakridge OR
  • Crummy little place, but nice tv and good wifi. Oakridge has a real Appalachian feel to it, not in a good way.

  • Old Brewery Hostel
  • Mizpah Hotel, Tonopah NV
  • Hostel-style lodging in a cool-looking renovated brewery building behind the actual Mitzpah. Register in the hotel, walk out the back door and across the street and there you are.

  • Katie's house #1
  • Myrtletown, Eureka CA
  • dog, cats, espresso machine, teenager

  • Albion River Campground
  • private business Albion CA
  • Looked good on the internet, and probably is good if you're a fisherman with a boat and a huge-ass RV as big as a mobile home.

  • Colman City Park Campground
  • Colman Municipal Golf Course, Colman SD
  • What a great place! Walk over to the golf course clubhouse to check in, she gives you the wifi password, then you pretty much park on the grass anywhere you want. The wifi was great, it happened that I parked 30' from the bathrooms What with food at the clubhouse, good wifi, and a short walk to the shower, I literally could live here a while.

  • Fontainebleau State Park
  • Louisiana State Parks, Mandeville LA
  • expensive, but quite nice really. great beach, little nature trail through the swamp, gazebo.

  • Martha's house #3
  • private business Petaluma CA
  • Making their way back to the Bay Area. A nice house on a busy street walking distance from user-friendly downtown Petaluma.

  • Lamplighter Motel
  • private business Alamosa CO
  • Downtown Alamosa is a cool place to hang out, but this motel is falling apart. Breakfast at their litle restaurant is included, and it was a pretty good breakfast.

  • Desert Hot Springs Resort
  • private business Desert Hot Springs CA
  • The lodge itself is not fancy, just a standard-issue two story motel with paper-thin walls. But it's got a restaurant and a bar and all those lovely soaking pools, so it's fancy to me! The motel is a rectangle enclosing the pool area - 6-7 pools, a couple very hot, a big pool where the kids hang out, and a bar area over in the corner. Cool Rat Pack-y kind of place.

  • Motel 6
  • Motel 6, Mammoth Lakes CA
  • A very nice price point for staying in Mammoth. Interior is very stylish and well laid out - plenty of electrical outlets in convenient places, nice table and shelves. On the negative side, no refrigerator and microwave, as I have come to expect in my cheap motels.

  • Colusa Casino
  • private business Colusa CA
  • RV parking is way in the back of the parking lot ... That part of the lot is still gravel there and quite muddy in the rain. Casino is cozy and not unpleasant. Restaurant and bar are just fine. Wifi is terrible except close to the coffee shop.

  • Katie's house #2
  • private business Eureka CA
  • On the edge of downtown Eureka. Across the street from the wonderful Humboldt County Library, in sight of the famous Carson Mansion, 200 yards from the Donut Mill (eek!). A rambling, beautiful old house. Wood-paneled dining room, high ceilings, old-school push button light switches. Kinda sketchy neighborhood though. The sidewalks look good in the daytime, but after dark they're owned by Eureka's uniquely aggro and insane-ish street people.

  • Arlington Hotel Resort and Spa
  • private business Hot Springs AR
  • Historic hotel in the very heart of downtown Hot Springs. Nice hot tub, I'm sure the pool is nice in the summer. A short walk to the Hot Springs Visitors Center.

  • Bailey's Hot Springs
  • private business Beatty NV
  • funky little place, needs a LOT of maintenance, but their wifi was pretty good.. They have three private bathhouses: 1 - pleasantly warm, 2 - hot (> 100) 3 - very hot. (> 104) So if the one you want is in use you're outta luck until whoever's inside has had their fill. The pools seemed hotter to me - the medium seemed like 104 and the hot like 107-8 ... your mileage may vary.

  • Ar Palas
  • private business Istanbul Turkey
  • on a steep hill right next to the super happening Taksim District. Breakfast is adequate. Amazing view from the room, even better up the fire escape on the roof.

  • South Fork Inn
  • private business Idaho Falls ID
  • Quite nice and deluxe as budget motels go.

  • Van Specialties
  • private business Tualatin OR
  • the parking lot of the folks that did my van customization. Actually, the parking lot is chained off this time, tonight's spot is the street outside the parking lot. Sleeping here solves two problems : 1. where to overnight in an urban area? 2. how to get in line early for my repairs.

  • Silver Surf Motel
  • private business San Simeon CA
  • Convenient place to crash on a stretch of highway with not too many options. The first reasonably prices place you will find after failing to find a place in Big Sur. Close to Hearst Castle and the Sea Elephant Mating Ground!
